Monash Health and G2V Design increase Syringe Dispensing Units in Melbourne's southeast

Monash Health and G2V Design have undertaken a significant expansion of their successful decade long partnership, with the deployment of three new Syringe Dispensing Units in Springvale, Cranbourne and Dandenong in Melbourne’s southeast.

In June 2013 Monash Health commissioned G2V Design to design, manufacture and operate three Syringe Dispensing Units to be located at Monash Hospital, Dandenong Hospital and Casey Hospital. By July 2014, the first SDU was operational at Monash Medical Centre in Clayton. This was quickly followed by deployments at Dandenong Hospital and Casey Hospital.

These units featured a unique box dispensing system and an innovative data capture system that collected demographic data during the dispensing process. This data has since contributed to several industry analyses, harm reduction publications, and presentations at international conferences.

As the use of these SDUs increased, particularly at Dandenong Hospital, G2V Design developed an updated, higher-capacity model, the G2VD0401. This model boasts a revolutionary double stack box dispensing mechanism, capable of holding over 350 packs of syringes in a comparatively small cabinet.

Since their inception, these SDUs have dispensed over 330,000 packs of syringes, with Dandenong Hospital alone accounting for two-thirds of that volume.

In response to this growing demand, Monash Health commissioned G2V Design to provision three new SDUs at Springvale Community Health Centre, Cranbourne Community Health, and Thomas St Dandenong.

The demand for additional machines is driven by our commitment to providing accessible harm reduction resources to our community. These new SDUs will help us reach more individuals in need and continue to collect valuable data to inform our services.

The latest version of the G2VD0401 SDU continues to utilize the double stack box dispensing mechanism and includes several upgrades:

• A new stainless-steel keypad for enhanced durability.

• An optional coin changer mechanism for added convenience.

• Updated door mounted dispensing chutes for improved functionality.

• Substantially larger display signage mounts for better visibility.

"G2V Design provide quick and efficient troubleshooting of the machines when needed and understand our unique consumer demographic. The company aligns well with the values of our service."

~Christopher Cornish-Raley, Senior Social Worker - Monash Health~

"Our goal is to continually improve the functionality and accessibility of our Syringe Dispensing Units," said Glenn Visca, Director - G2V Design. "With these new features, we aim to better serve the community and support Monash Health in their mission to reduce harm."

The expanded deployment of these SDUs marks a significant step forward in the effort to provide essential health services and support harm reduction strategies across Southeast Melbourne.
